The 2016 vintage is mostly critiqued as excellent, or even legendary, but time will tell. The winter was wet and exceptionally warm and humid which sped up the growth. The wet winter gave the soil enough water to survive a hot summer. Saint-Estephe is located north in Bordeaux with a bit cooler climate than rest of Bordeaux which gave the appellation grapes to reach full phenolic ripeness. Furthermore 2016 is regarded as one of the best vintages in recent history.

The wine has aromas of cranberries, blueberries which is expected from a merlot heavy wine. Further aromas of anise and plums.

The wine tasted of blueberries, black currants, anise, spice, dark plums and had a tight tannic structure. The wine was very concentrated in flavour with a touch of acidity and an almost perfect balance, especially after two hours in a decanter. The finish was long and we deem the wine as a very interesting and exciting ageing project with a peak in about nine years. We missed a bit more complexity.
