Drinking this wine has given me more insight into historical highlights than any history lectures I have attended. To put the lifespan of this wine into perspective, in the year 1863, Henry Ford was born and Abraham Lincoln was still the president of the U.S. who two years later abolished slavery in the U.S. The wine has lived through the American civil war, the opening of the Suez Canal in Egypt, the invention of dynamite by Alfred Nobel, the second industrial revolution, two world wars and numerous other international conflicts that shaped history.

As far as the wine goes, it is incredibly complex. Notes of dried fruit, dried figs, raisins, dried plums, dried apricots, dark sweet chocolate, cinnamon, earl grey tea, sweet mocha coffee, caramelized almonds and walnuts, molasses, vanilla.

Incredible length and depth of flavor, some balancing acidity is still hanging on after all these years.

With all that said, this is an absolutely fabulous wine and a marvelous piece of history.
