An incredible experience!

The wine has kept well despite its age, and this bottle comes with quite the story!
The bottles comes from the wine merchant Mahler-Besse Negociant in Bordeaux who bought 14 barrels back in the day that were planned to be shipped to the USA in 1942. As the Second World War rages, it became to dangerous to cross the Atlantic Ocean and the wine stayed in France, and became “forgotten”.
Back in modern day, 2018, bottles were sent to Chateau Cheval Blanc for inspection, and the bottles that had survived got re-corked and re-labeled, and in total 60 bottles of the 1939 vintage got released for sale worldwide. An astonishing 12 of them came to Norway.

There is a strange aroma of tomato purée and old fruit jam that I can’t get out of my head.
Most of the primary fruit aromas seem well past their prime. Some dried fruit, dried figs, dried cranberries, some reduced dark fruit jam. Some woody characters, tree-bark, soy sauce, balsamic, a sort of umami flavour. The wine lacks some structure, tannins seem faded, low acidity, medium concentration, and medium finish

Quite the experience and history lesson!
